I am not a greedy person. I'll be the first to share whatever I have with those I care about. Hell, if you're not a shithead, I might even buy you a beer just after meeting you. Depends on if I like you or not.
This time of year, however, I think every one gets a little greedy. It's tax return time. Once you get into the swing of January, knowing that your W-2s have to be mailed by the 31st, you start to get a little anxious. You start fantasizing about how you're gonna spend your money. There are the obvious responsible decisions at first, which then give way to the more frivolous and impulsive choices. You start hoping its a lot, but always keeping in the back of your mind it might not be. Its all mind over matter at this point until you actually file.
Since Robin only had one W-2 to file from last year, she was able to do her taxes yesterday. She's getting quite a bit back. More than either of us are used to seeing. With the wonderful slew of charges I've racked up on my credit card since the holidays (and not to mention yesterday's kick in the balls), I am hoping that mine will at least come close to what she got refunded. One, I made quite a bit more than she did. Two, I got (for lack of a better word) absolutely RAPED on taxes while working at Whole Foods. Since neither of us are filing partially in Indiana, the Work For Welfare program that screwed us last year shouldn't apply.
I am not getting my hopes up too much, but its still bothering me that with the advent of a tax return, I am like a money-grubbing animal. Blegh. Just give me enough to clear my credit card and we'll call it even.
In other news, Robin's going to be going on vacation soon. Its going to be the longest we've gone without seeing each other since we started dating. I am not very much looking forward to it, but I am not going to let myself succumb to sloth and minor-depression. I never thought I was very co-dependent, but with her takeoff quickly approaching I can't help but be bummed about it. I plan on utilizing my free time to blog consistently, set up an EARN YOUR SLEEP website front (any ideas?) and get around to getting issue 3 compiled and ready for print. Once that's out of the way, I can begin working on other issues. I think issue 4 might end up being a collection of old short stories. We'll see.
Also, Michull and Maggie will be here by February 4th (Maggie's birthday). Words cannot express how excited I am to have the two of them back in my city. Its hard to believe that almost a year has passed since Michull left. There are so many bars and restaurants and other discoveries we've made that we'll finally get to share with the two of them. After a brief phone conversation Robin had with him yesterday, you can definitely tell they are ready to get the fuck out of Boston. I'll raise this cup of coffee to you, friends, for safe travels back to Bridgetown. To all my other friends absent from the West Coast...what the hell are you waiting for?
